- Apple Developer Account Requirements for Apple Pay on the Web
- You still need a paid Apple Developer account.
- Free tier does not allow Apple Pay merchant IDs or certificates, even for web.
- Paid account is required to create:
- Merchant ID (needed by Apple Pay)
- Merchant Identity Certificate (used to authenticate your web server to Apple Pay)
- You do not need an iOS app or any app provisioning profiles.
- Preparation & Enrollment Steps (Web-Only Apple Pay)
- Verify / Create Customer Apple ID
- Must have Two-Factor Authentication enabled.
- Can be an existing personal Apple ID or a new one for the customer.
- Decide Account Type
- Organization account recommended for businesses.
- Individual account is technically possible, but organizations get legal protections and easier verification.
- Gather Required Information
- Legal entity name
- D-U-N-S number (for companies)
- Organization address and phone number
- Website URL
- Contact person authorized to enroll in Apple Developer Program
- Enroll in Paid Apple Developer Program
- Go to: Apple Developer Program Enrollment
- Choose Organization account
- Fill in all required legal and contact info
- Pay the $99/year fee
- Apple may verify via phone or email
- Post-Enrollment Access
- Once enrollment is active, you can log in to Certificates, Identifiers & Profiles to:
- Create Merchant IDs
- Generate Merchant Identity Certificates for Apple Pay on the web
- No need to deal with provisioning profiles, App IDs, or iOS device registration
