  1. Apple Developer Account Requirements for Apple Pay on the Web
    • You still need a paid Apple Developer account.
    • Free tier does not allow Apple Pay merchant IDs or certificates, even for web.
    • Paid account is required to create:
    • Merchant ID (needed by Apple Pay)
    • Merchant Identity Certificate (used to authenticate your web server to Apple Pay)
    • You do not need an iOS app or any app provisioning profiles.
  2. Preparation & Enrollment Steps (Web-Only Apple Pay)
    • Verify / Create Customer Apple ID
    • Must have Two-Factor Authentication enabled.
    • Can be an existing personal Apple ID or a new one for the customer.
    • Decide Account Type
    • Organization account recommended for businesses.
    • Individual account is technically possible, but organizations get legal protections and easier verification.
    • Gather Required Information
    • Legal entity name
    • D-U-N-S number (for companies)
    • Organization address and phone number
    • Website URL
    • Contact person authorized to enroll in Apple Developer Program
    • Enroll in Paid Apple Developer Program
    • Go to: Apple Developer Program Enrollment
    • Choose Organization account
    • Fill in all required legal and contact info
    • Pay the $99/year fee
    • Apple may verify via phone or email
  3. Post-Enrollment Access
    • Once enrollment is active, you can log in to Certificates, Identifiers & Profiles to:
    • Create Merchant IDs
    • Generate Merchant Identity Certificates for Apple Pay on the web
    • No need to deal with provisioning profiles, App IDs, or iOS device registration
